I have absolutely nothing to say about the Washington Nationals, other than Washington once had a team named the Senators, who later moved to Minneapolis and became the Twins, and 2 time world champions, thank you very much. Then Washington had no baseball team for a long time, which is a shame because I didn't get to see a ballgame there during 6 months at George Washington University. I did see the Orioles once. They were good back then thanks to Brady Anderson discovering 'roids and going from 7 to 50 HRs. Or something like that. Maybe it was 17 to 50... but you get my point.
Anyway, back Washington. Montreal had a team for a while that was actually pretty good. They had a great farm system. In fact, had the 1994 season not been cancelled midway through the season because of the famous player strike, they could've won the World Series. They Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker, other good pitchers... Vladimir Guerrero maybe ? Anyway, they were good. The Nationals suck big time. What a dumb name. Gutter Rats would've been better.
Baseball in French sounds really weird !
This is a little embarrassing. I was going to write about the Expos tonight and then Husbandman told me they didn't exist anymore. I missed this memo somewhere along the way.
ReplyDeleteOK, so I've now read two posts and one comment that says the Expos no longer exist. How did I not know this?
ReplyDeleteGod, I forgot how goofy the Expos uniforms were. They look like the uniforms in the Mexican League (Google that and you'll see what I mean). Baseball in French does sound hilarious. The Expos stadium was horrible. You can tell on the video there. It was the track and field stadium for the 1976 Olympics and was converted to baseball ... kind of like the Atlanta Braves stadium.
ReplyDeleteLast note: great shot of Dennis Boyd pitching. His nickname was Oil Can Boyd. Why? Just because.
I love it that you Swiss Guys are such big Twins fans. Makes my heart sing, to tell the truth. Are Uncle Bob and Ryan coming to visit for any games this spring?!
ReplyDeleteRemember when you and Ollie did the Twins play-by-play in French? That was awesome. I wish the Twins still did that thing. I am going to tweet them about that right now.
ReplyDelete@DW That was an amazing experience! I was terribly nervous. I remember wearing my favorite pink short sleeve shirt with elephants on it. We must have a video tape of it somewhere.
ReplyDelete@KC Uncle Bob will arrive on opening day of Twins baseball at Target Field and will spend most of the summer in your neck of the woods. I'm dying to join but I might not be able to this summer depending on work/finances/intangibles... If not this summer the next for sure!
I like baseball in French, though it seems slightly wrong. It is just as bizarre as watching basketball commentating in Spanish. Perhaps the French is the hidden reason Montreal no longer has a team.
